Reviews
There are three levels in the Boogie, Rock & Country books, which is part of the Bastian Piano Basics Supplementary books. These books are geared to 7-11 year old beginners, and are supplements to a four level series. There is also a primer level (5-7 year old beginners).Level 1, is for the very beginner: It's in 4/4. It only has quarter notes and an occasional eight note. All are in the key of C, except one song, which is in the key of G. There are a few three note chords. Notes go as high as one ledger above the treble cleff, and as low as one ledger below the bass cleff. It has a few lyrics. It has fingerings.Level 2, which is the 24-page book that I'm reviewing here, is also for the very beginner. The only difference with book 1 is that it adds 2/4 time signature. It has 11 songs:Bill BaileyBlind Mice BoogieCircus RagGoin' to NashvilleThe Man On the Flying TrapezeMidnight BluesRockin' MacSkateboard BoogieSuper RockTrain Ride!Turkey In The StrawLevel 3, adds 3/4 time signature. It also adds one more ledger line to both cleffs, and it adds the key of F.Verdict:These three books actually make sense regarding their progression, which can't be said from some other "beginner" Boogie Woogie books that I reviewed. If you're a beginner, get all three of them. Just don't spend more than $10/piece. The problem is that you'll master this book in no time flat. A better bang for your buck option may be to just get a bigger book with a little more material, such as "Boogie Woogie For Little Fingers", "Leed's Eight to the Bar", "Boogie Woogie For Beginners", "Playing Boogie Woogie, Blues & Jazz". ;-)
