He was born on December 8th , 1886 and died on November 24th , 1957. He came from a well to do family. His parents were María del Pilar Barrientos and Diego Rivera Acosta. Diego had a twin brother Carlos who only lived for two years.Diego’s parents encouraged him from an early age in his art. Instead of punishing him for drawing on the walls, they hung blank canvases and chalkboards throught the house for him to practice.Early in his art career Diego mostly painted social realism, but when he saw the cubist works of Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque and Juan Gris he began painting in the cubism style. He used this style predominately from 1913-1917. Mid 1917 he became inspired by Paul Cézanne’s post impressionism and shifted into that style.Rivera’s is most famous artistically for his murals and fresco’s. He is most known for his tumultuous relationship with Mexican artist Frida Khalo.
