There is no keen observation of the times.As an example, young Michelangelo is asked to help an apprentice make a newfangled type of brush to work with oil paint, How does oil paint differ from tempera? Where is the observation of the differences in design, the nature of the different media. What differentiates a brush for oil versus the tempera brush? . How can the enthusiast gather together the materials and make a replica of those centuries old brushes?The author should consider a rewrite for modern youth. I would never try to assign this book to a class of middle school students,
